 History and Aims

NZIPP offers firstly a meeting place for experienced practitioners to meet together to increase their understandings of psychoanalytic theory and practice from its historical foundations through to contemporary developments. It seeks to do this through the maintenance of a high standard of training, the promotion of ethical practice and by furthering understanding through research.

In addition we offer a three-year training course.
This is designed as an in-depth study of theory and its practical applications and is open to those who meet the entry criteria in this modality. Substantial experience of personal psychotherapy and regular supervision are required in the interests of providing a total learning experience. Overall the emphasis is on integrating theory and practice. Our training course is now fully ccredited by the PPAA.
Overall Aims:

To constitute an institute which shall be made up from a multi disciplinary group of social workers, psychologists, psychiatrists and psychotherapists, and practitioners of other appropriate disciplines, committed to the practice, development and organisation of psychoanalytic psychotherapy.

To increase learning and promote understanding of the theory and practice of psychoanalytic psychotherapy.

To define, establish and maintain high standards of professional competence, ethics and research in the practice of Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy.

To provide a forum for the exchange of ideas and information about Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy and related subjects.

To maintain adequate connection and links between members of the Institute and the wider community.

To pursue and maintain close links with similar professional organisations nationally and internationally.

To develop papers and documents with the aim
of publishing and therefore making available new
Psychoanalytic material.
